Golden Era Bodybuilding – Muscle Beach Stories – West Coach Bodybuilding

Dick Tyler lived the iron history many love to read about, and in this recording, part one of two, he tells of his experiences of Muscle Beach in the ’40s and ’50s and the early bodybuilding shows of the ’60s. We hear his memories of the old-time strongmen, the arrival of Arnold to California, Jack LaLanne’s gym challenges and much more.

Parts One and Two stand alone, but he’s sure to leave you wanting more.

“The important thing is that we have a very beautiful history, a beautiful background. It’s not a freak show. It’s not a bunch of muscle-bound people without any brains. We have wonderful and bright people who have been bodybuilders in all different professions. They wanted to be better at doing something they enjoyed.”~Dick Tyler

LECTURER BIO

Dick Tyler was an actor, journalist and writer who paid for chiropractic school by writing most of the articles in the Weider magazines during the mid-’60s to early ’70s. If you enjoy his stories, you’ll love his fabulous book of Golden Era bodybuilding, West Coast Bodybuilding Scene. Dick is a practicing chiropractor.

“Dick Tyler wove a rich tapestry of words that a whole generation of bodybuilders and fans alike grew up on. As vivid as those tales were, they almost pale in comparison to hear him telling the stories himself. You’ll find yourself hanging on to every word as Dick recounts story after fascinating story. A natural storyteller, he infuses each tale as if it were a one-man show on Broadway where he once starred!”
