Gray Cook and Craig Liebenson Interview – Movement Assessment – FMS and SFMA
FMS and SFMA
In this conversation, Craig Liebenson asks Gray Cook the questions he has, and has heard people ask, about movement screening and the medical model of the Functional Movement Screen. This is an in-depth conversation that will answer some of your biggest questions about screening, resetting and reinforcing as taught by Gray Cook.
“You will have appreciable gains in performance before you see appreciable changes in biological structure. Even under that, you have to see positive responses before you see positive adaptations. That’s why I say corrective strategy is something where you have to watch the gauges tighten. You see a change in a single session—not an adaptation, but a response. If you build positive responses on top of each other, adaptations occur.”~Gray Cook
“When we find now that inhibition of the glute medius in the site of, let’s say, back pain, we’ll go to the contralateral side and use the getup. The getup will get the contacts screaming and immediately they’ll have the core stability. Now they can use that contralateral leg in the frontal plane. When we go back to check, the trigger points are gone. Always to my surprise, the hip mobility deficit is gone as well. I’m clearing the hip mobility deficit. I’m clearing the trigger point. However, we’re not addressing any of them. We’re resetting by getting that motor pattern to re-groove.”~Craig Liebenson
