Functional Movement Screen – Using the FMS in groups – Exercise Programming for Groups

This lecture speaks to using the Functional Movement Screen in a bootcamp or group fitness setting on the front end with new and existing clients, how to interpret the FMS scores, how to implement the FMS correctives in your workouts, and how to gain referrals from using the FMS.

“Group classes are here to stay—the boot camps, the group fitness classes and the kettlebell classes. They’re all here to stay simply because it’s a way for people to get in good shape. They have expert instruction, at a lower price point. When you add in the social aspects of motivation and working out with others, it’s a perfect way to get started instead of than just a personal one-on-one training session.” ~Mark Snow

I am interested in using the FMS in a group setting as way of encouraging people to get off the couch and eliminate obstacles and excuses to healthy exercise. I appreciated Mark sharing his concepts and experiance from the trainer’s perspective. I am a chiropractor and encourage a multi disciplinary approach to health and try to work with patients and their health team to find the best combination of therapies and approaches to help the patient achieve their goals. Mark’s presentation was helpful to me finding new ways to explore this process. He outlines it well in this presentation. Thank you Mark Snow. Thank you Movement Lectures for providing this opportunity.

  2. Doug Barsanti

It was great to see that someone is using the FMS in a group setting and figured out a way to successfully build in corrections and continued monitoring of their clients. It’s a trial and error process and Mark has spent considerable time figuring out how to make it work.

  3. Kris Moulton

What can I say other than WOW. From the first time I was introduced to FMS I have seen it used effectively in both one on one and group settings. Mark has laid out an easy to follow plan and principles for insuring that your group not only gets the individual movement attention needed but the also walk out satisfied after getting the product they wanted. I apply this in a corporate gym setting where FMS is almost unheard of. My clients both one on one and group understand the FMS, know correctives, why and what we are correcting, and their knowledge of the principles has changed the way they practice, play, and train. Mark’s book and program is the foundation of how I program and it changed my outlook completely.
